Sodium Hypochlorite or “Chlorine” as its commonly referred to has been used to treat drinking water for a long time. Whilst it works well, there is the drawback of the taste and odour being noticeable. It also only works for a short period and needs to be monitored and topped up particularly in warmer weather.
But it doesn’t have to be this way.
The Australian Drinking Water Guidelines have a number of biocides that can be employed to make water safe to drink. Sanosil uses a unique combination of hydrogen peroxide and silver to treat water. Not only is it very effective but has tremendous stability both before application and once in solution. For warmer areas or tanks sitting long term this means you get long term residual disinfection.
Hydrogen peroxides chemical formula of H2O2 means that once it breaks down the by products are oxygen and water. Better for the environment with better taste and odour it is the ideal choice for treating water.
Trihalomethanes are formed as a by-product predominantly when chlorine is used to disinfect drinking water. They result from the reaction of chlorine or bromine with organic matter present in the water being treated. Many governments set limits on the amount permissible in drinking water. In the United States, the EPA limits the total concentration of the four chief constituents (chloroform, bromoform, bromodichloromethane, and dibromochloromethane), referred to as total trihalomethanes (TTHM), to 80 parts per billion in treated water. Treating your water with Sanosil eliminates this issue as the by products of Hydrogen Peroxide are water and oxygen.
